Well Man Health Check with Dr Faizal Secretary, Fulwood, Preston
Proactive men's health

What is a Well Man Health Check?

A well man check (or well man health check) is a GP-led preventative health assessment for men that reviews your overall health and screens for common risks — heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and, where appropriate, prostate (PSA) and testosterone. At My Private Clinic in Fulwood, Preston it begins with a 30-minute GP consultation with Dr Faizal Secretary (from £119), with any blood panels tailored to you and quoted before testing.

Many men put off seeing a doctor until symptoms begin affecting their daily lives. A Well Man Health Check offers a proactive way to assess your health, identify potential concerns early, and understand your future health risks.

A Well Man Health Check is a personalised assessment of your overall health. Men choose one for different reasons — some have a family history of conditions such as heart disease or diabetes, while others want reassurance or advice about ongoing symptoms.

Every assessment begins with a consultation with Dr Faizal Secretary. After discussing your medical history, lifestyle, symptoms and risk factors, he recommends the investigations most appropriate for your individual needs. The aim isn't to carry out as many tests as possible — it's to ensure you receive the right investigations and understand exactly what your results mean.

What's included

What can Dr Faizal include in your Well Man Health Check?

Every health check is tailored to your individual needs rather than following a standard package. Depending on your assessment, it may include:

Blood Tests

Blood tests may assess cholesterol, diabetes, liver and kidney function, thyroid health, iron levels, vitamin deficiencies, and — where clinically appropriate — PSA or testosterone levels.

Cardiovascular Assessment

This may include blood pressure measurement, BMI, cardiovascular risk assessment, and an ECG where appropriate.

Lifestyle Review

Your consultation includes discussion of diet, exercise, sleep, smoking, alcohol intake, and other lifestyle factors that may affect your long-term health.

Further Investigations

Where clinically appropriate, Dr Faizal can arrange imaging referrals or specialist investigations.

The focus is always on recommending the right investigations for your health, not unnecessary tests. If PSA or testosterone testing is relevant to you, Dr Faizal will explain what each test can and cannot tell you before arranging it.

Who it's for

Who should consider a Well Man Health Check?

A Well Man Health Check may be suitable if you:

  • Want a general assessment of your overall health
  • Have a family history of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or prostate problems
  • Are experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, low energy, or unexplained weight changes
  • Want to monitor your cholesterol, blood pressure, or diabetes risk
  • Would like to take a proactive approach to your long-term health
  • Want reassurance about your current health and wellbeing

Whether you have specific concerns or simply want a clearer picture of your health, a personalised assessment can help you make informed decisions about your future wellbeing. For a general (non-sex-specific) assessment, see our Full Health MOT.

How it compares

How does a Well Man Health Check compare with an NHS Health Check?

Both NHS Health Checks and private Well Man Health Checks aim to identify potential health risks, but they differ in the level of personalisation and access available.

Private Well Man Health Check NHS Health Check
Available to adults of any age Usually offered to eligible adults aged 40–74
Same-day or next-day appointments often available Appointment availability depends on your GP practice
Investigations tailored to your symptoms and medical history Standard NHS assessment following set criteria
Longer consultation with Dr Faizal Secretary Consultation length may vary
Results explained with personalised advice Follow-up depends on local NHS services

Many patients choose private healthcare for faster access, personalised investigations, and continuity of care while remaining fully registered with their NHS GP.

After your results

What happens after your results?

Your health check doesn't end when the results arrive — understanding what they mean is just as important. Dr Faizal Secretary will review your results with you, explain any findings clearly, and answer any questions you may have. Depending on your assessment, your personalised plan may include:

  • Reassurance if your results are within the expected range
  • Lifestyle advice to improve your long-term health
  • Medication where clinically appropriate
  • Further investigations if additional assessment is needed
  • Referral to a specialist where appropriate

You'll leave your appointment with a clear understanding of your health and the most appropriate next steps. Where further assessment is appropriate, a specialist referral can be arranged.
