Well Woman Health Check with Dr Faizal Secretary, Fulwood, Preston
Personalised women's health

What is a Well Woman Health Check?

A well woman check (or well woman health check) is a GP-led preventative health assessment for women that reviews your overall health and screens for common risks — heart disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, iron deficiency and anaemia, and hormonal changes such as perimenopause and menopause. At My Private Clinic in Fulwood, Preston it begins with a 30-minute GP consultation with Dr Faizal Secretary (from £119), with any blood panels tailored to you and quoted before testing.

Whether you're looking for reassurance, investigating ongoing symptoms, or simply taking a proactive approach to your long-term health, a Well Woman Health Check provides a personalised assessment of your overall wellbeing.

A Well Woman Health Check is designed to identify potential health concerns, assess future health risks, and provide a clearer understanding of your overall wellbeing. Many women book a health check because of a family history of illness, ongoing symptoms, or simply for reassurance.

Every assessment begins with a GP consultation, allowing Dr Faizal Secretary to recommend investigations that are appropriate for your individual health needs rather than following a standard checklist. Investigations are explained clearly before they're arranged.

What does a Well Woman Health Check include?

Every Well Woman Health Check is tailored to your individual health needs. The investigations recommended depend on your symptoms, medical history, family history, age, and any risk factors identified during your consultation.

Blood Tests

Blood tests may assess cholesterol, diabetes risk, thyroid function, liver and kidney health, iron levels, vitamin deficiencies, and other important health markers where clinically appropriate.

Cardiovascular Assessment

May include blood pressure measurement, BMI, cardiovascular risk assessment, and an ECG where clinically indicated.

Hormonal Assessment

Hormonal investigations may be recommended for concerns such as irregular periods, perimenopause, menopause, or fertility.

Lifestyle Review

Discussion of diet, exercise, sleep, smoking, alcohol, and other lifestyle factors affecting long-term health.

Further Investigations

Imaging referrals or specialist assessments can be arranged where clinically appropriate.

If hormonal symptoms are your main concern, you may also find our menopause and period problems care helpful.

How it compares

Private Well Woman Health Check vs NHS Health Check

Both NHS Health Checks and private Well Woman Health Checks aim to identify potential health risks, but they differ in how they're delivered.

Private Well Woman Health Check NHS Health Check
Available to women of any age Usually offered to eligible adults aged 40–74
Same-day or next-day appointments often available Availability depends on your GP practice
Investigations tailored to your symptoms and medical history Standard NHS assessment following set criteria
Longer GP consultation with Dr Faizal Secretary Consultation format may vary
Results explained personally with clear recommendations Follow-up depends on individual NHS services
Does not affect your NHS GP registration Requires NHS GP registration

A private Well Woman Health Check complements NHS care by offering faster access and personalised GP assessment.

After your results

What happens after your results?

Receiving your results is only part of the process. Understanding what they mean and deciding on the right next steps is equally important. Dr Faizal Secretary will explain your results clearly and discuss any recommended next steps. Depending on your results, this may include:

  • Reassurance if everything is within the expected range
  • Lifestyle advice to support your long-term health
  • Medication where clinically appropriate
  • Further investigations if additional assessment is needed
  • Referral to a specialist for ongoing care where appropriate

Where further assessment is appropriate, a specialist referral can be arranged.
