What £350 actually gets you

Most clinics hand you a scan. We hand you answers.

A scan you don’t understand is just an expensive photograph. The difference isn’t the image. It’s who reads it back to you.

Everywhere else: a report

“MRI brain: no acute intracranial abnormality. Minor age-related white matter change. No mass lesion.”

Posted to you as a PDF. Now what? You’re left to Google half of it.

Here: a GP review

“I’ve read your scan, and with the headaches you’ve been getting, there’s nothing sinister going on. Here’s what’s most likely causing them, and the two things we’ll try next.”

A GP sits with you and explains what it means for you. You leave knowing exactly what to do.

That second review, reading the report against your symptoms, by phone or face to face, is included in every scan. It’s the whole point.

Normally £69

Pre-scan GP review

Need something more specialist?

The body map covers the scans people ask for most, but we scan far more than that. A few of the others:

Hands, limbs & joints

Wrist, hand, fingers, thumb, elbow, forearm, upper arm, foot, ankle, calf and thigh.

Blood vessels (MRA)

Carotid arteries, circle of Willis, renal and visceral arteries, aorta and limb angiograms.

Head, neck & nerves

Pituitary gland, orbits (eyes), sinuses, inner ears for dizziness or hearing loss, and facial or trigeminal nerves.

Chest & abdomen

MRCP for the bile ducts, gallbladder and pancreas, plus liver, kidneys, small bowel and cardiac MRI.

Women’s & men’s

Breast imaging, scrotum, and detailed prostate studies including biparametric MRI.

Whole-body & screening

Full-body MRI, whole-spine imaging and targeted screening for peace of mind.

Most single-region scans are £350, all-in with your two GP reviews. Specialist studies and scans needing contrast are confirmed, with the exact price, at your GP review, so you always know before you commit. If you can name it, just ask us.

Why patients choose us

Why book your MRI with My Private Clinic?

Two GP reviews included

A review before and after your scan, by phone or face to face, worth £138, and on us. Almost no clinic in the country does this. You are never left alone with a report you can’t read.

Scanned on-site in Preston

No travelling to a van in a car park. Your scan is done here, on high-field equipment from manufacturers such as Siemens and GE Healthcare.

Results sometimes the same day

Instead of months on an NHS waiting list, most scans are arranged within 24 to 48 hours, and your report is often ready the same day, otherwise within 24 to 48 hours.

Read by UK consultant radiologists

Every scan is reported by UK-based, GMC-registered consultant radiologists under Royal College of Radiologists governance.

A GP who sorts the next step

If you need a specialist, Dr Faizal arranges the referral. If you’re fine, he tells you plainly. You don’t go hunting.

The basics

What is an MRI scan, and is it safe?

An MRI scanner is a large tunnel-shaped machine. You lie on a table that slides gently inside, and it uses a magnetic field, not radiation, to capture detailed images of soft tissue that X-rays and CT scans can miss. A scan takes 20 to 45 minutes; you’ll hear knocking sounds (that’s normal), wear headphones, and hold a call bell the whole time.

MRI is very safe. Because a powerful magnet is used, the team checks your implant and surgical history before every scan, so always mention any metal, devices or past operations when you book.

When to seek emergency care instead

If you have a sudden severe headache, weakness on one side, slurred speech or loss of vision, go to your nearest A&E or call 999 now. This may be a stroke and needs urgent care, not a booked scan.

Dr Faizal Secretary is a GP with experience in general practice and acute medicine in the NHS. He set up My Private Clinic in Fulwood, Preston to give patients what the NHS increasingly can’t: time to be listened to, and investigations arranged without the wait.

“An MRI is an incredible tool. My job is to make sure it’s the right scan, and that you understand exactly what it found.”

"Good healthcare starts with listening."Dr Faizal Secretary, MRCGP · GMC 7606534
A patient’s story

“5 star professional service”

I decided to have a private MRI scan as an ultrasound had revealed I had a larger-than-normal growth on my gallbladder. I spoke with Dr Secretary and he arranged a scan for the following Tuesday, only 5 days after my ultrasound.

The speed and efficiency were excellent, and Dr Secretary went out of his way to meet me before the scan, which was a lovely, reassuring touch.

He personally rang me at 9.30pm the following evening with the results and, in his words, said: “I just want you to have a good night’s sleep, as it’s benign.” Obviously I was tearful and relieved, but overwhelmed by his compassion. Would highly recommend this company.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Reviewed by Dr Faizal Secretary MRCGP
What does £350 actually include?

Everything for a single body part: a GP review before the scan to make sure it’s the right one, the MRI scan itself on-site in Preston, a consultant radiologist report, and a second GP review afterwards, by phone or face to face, to explain the results. The two GP reviews, normally £69 each, are included free. Each additional area scanned at the same visit is £200.

Can I book a private MRI scan without a referral?

Yes. You can self-refer directly. If you’re not sure which scan you need, that’s exactly what the included pre-scan GP review is for. Dr Faizal confirms the right scan before you pay for anything.

How quickly can I get a private MRI scan in Preston?

Most scans are arranged within 24 to 48 hours. Your report is often ready the same day, and otherwise within 24 to 48 hours of the scan, rather than the months you might wait on the NHS.

How long does an MRI scan take?

Between 20 and 45 minutes depending on the body part. A joint scan (knee, shoulder) is around 20 to 25 minutes; a full spine or brain scan may be a little longer.

Do I need to fast before an MRI scan?

Not for brain, spine or joint scans, where you can eat and drink as normal. For an abdomen or pelvis scan you may be asked to fast for a few hours; the team will tell you in advance.

Can I have an MRI scan if I have metal in my body?

It depends on the type of metal or implant. Always tell the imaging team about any implants, surgery or devices. Some implants, such as certain pacemakers and cochlear implants, are not compatible with MRI, so the team checks your history for safety before every scan.

I get claustrophobic, can I still have the scan?

Yes. Tell us when you book and we can arrange an open or wide-bore scanner. You also hold a call bell throughout and the team talks to you the whole time.
